An exciting new initiative for Stourbridge enabling community participation in the acquisition of land for the development of sustainable, affordable, inspiring homes designed and built by the people who will live in them.

If we can form a community that consists of Carpenters, plumbers and electricians as well as solicitors, architects and surveyors we will be able to build beautiful ecologically, physically, environmentally and socially sustainable homes for a fraction of the cost of buying an off the shelf "baked bean tin" house

"This week the government set out a vision in which an extra 100,000 self-build homes – it uses the phrase "custom-build" housing – will go up over the next decade in England alone. It wants to "kickstart a revolution" in which local authorities will for the first time be required to take self-build seriously, release publicly owned land to self-builders, and give government support to those taking the first step in building their own futures. For now, it is making £30m available as short-term project finance, and in March next year will unveil a formal action plan to turn the vision into reality" Self-Build: It’s time to go Dutch, The Guardian, Friday 25 November, 2011
